Pears

Here’s a good place to leave comments about pears…or you may have to click on the date link below to see the comments page. I didn’t do it intentionally, but maybe the “updated” theme changed it(???).

If you want to leave a detailed description of a pear that you find especially noteworthy, a different page is a good place to record it for pos-pearity.

    Hi,

Thank you for this great resource on pears and other fruits! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading through the different varieties, and all of your information has been extremely helpful in selecting varieties for my location near Raleigh, NC. I was having trouble locating a scion for the Merricourt variety, and was wondering if I could purchase one from you or trade for a variety if there’s something that I’m growing that you wanted. Thanks!

      Steve,

I apologize for the slow reply… Mericourt is a fantastic pear. Unfortunately, I had to move and sold my NC orchards. At my new place, I have had some trouble getting ‘Mericourt’ myself. Dave Vernon, over at Century Farm Orchards in NC may can get Mericourt scions before I can. I plan to ask him to start selling ‘Mericourt’ and he’s a good guy… so maybe he will. I got my original scionwood from the USDA pear germplasm repository, but they’ve stopped giving scions to regular folks. I’ll also talk to Dave in a couple of weeks, so maybe if he gets several requests, he’ll graft some trees for us!

What kinds of pears do you grow?

      Best regards,
      Anton
